Police Officer Confesses to Being Suicidal, Requests Kenyans for Help [VIDEO]

A police officer attached to Marsabit police station is pleading with Kenyans for help after attempting suicide on a number of occasions.
The officer, identified as Kiprotich Rop, disclosed that he has been suffering from depression and that no one wanted to listen to his tribulations.
He, however, noted that he did not want to die because he had an expectant wife who was looking up to him for help.

“Please help me, I don’t want to die. My wife is pregnant and I do not want to leave her behind,” Kiprotich stated.
“I am requesting everyone who is ready to help me to cope with depression to come to my rescue. I have been had suicidal thoughts severally. I tried to kill myself today. Please help me. I do not want to die,” he pleaded.
According to a report by mental health experts, about 60 police officers die by suicide annually.
Majority are said to crumble under social, financial and workplace pressures.
“Stagnation in rank, disciplinary actions arising from desertion and inadequate monitoring of junior officers leaving outside police lines are among causes of stress in officers identified,” reads an excerpt of the report by the experts.
Kiprotich’s appeal came just a month after a Senior Sergeant identified as George Omomdi Omwa and attached to Siaya Huduma Centre was found dead in his house.
The officer burned down the house and efforts by neighbours to save his life were futile.
