The National roll out of the Competence Based Education curriculum will begin in the New Year as opposed to 2020 as earlier announced.

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed says the decision was arrived at after extensive consultations with education stakeholders gave implementation of 2-6-3-3-3 system a clean bill of health.

Last Saturday, Amina alongside Multi-Sectoral National Steering Committee met and delivered their resolution on the implementation of Competency Based Curriculum.

In their estimation, the CS acknowledged that glaring gaps had necessitated delay of the roll out.

But this position has since changed.

“The Ministry of Education will commence a methodical and carefully organized phased roll out of CBC effective 1st January 2019,” said Education CS Amina Mohamed.

“The Ministry of Education will issue a detailed rollout-out plan and timetable for the other grades that will lead to the last cohort of pupils sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in the year 2023 and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in the year 2027,” Amina added.

This decision immediately received the support of the Kenya Publishers Association.

Addressing a press conference, the group’s chairperson Lawrence Njagi lauded the change of mind by the steering committee, insisting that it has already distributed teaching and learning materials across the country.
