An attempt by a businessman Andrew Simiyu to reserve the Jubilee Asili name associated with Deputy President William Ruto has backfired.
The acting Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu said the name did not meet the threshold required as it resembled another registered political party (Jubilee).

In her response to the trader in a letter dated June 22, Nderitu said the suggested name was not in compliance with section eight of the political parties act, 2011.
“This is to inform you the name suggested is not in compliance with section eight of the political parties act, 2011. Further and without prejudice upon registration of the party the name shall not be in line with article 91 of the Constitution of Kenya,”
“The name does not meet legal requirement, so any application on the same name cannot be admitted,” the registrar said in the letter.

Simiyu however, vowed to challenge the ruling at the at the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal saying he was not satisfied with the decision.
“There is no resemblance whatsoever between Jubilee Party and Jubilee Asili. I went to the registrar on June 18 to conduct a search and preserve the name and everything was okay. I believe strongly that the rejection of registration is not just the position of the registrar, but is more political,” he said.

“Had lunch with Jubilee MPs who were recently assigned other responsibilities in the party. Thanked them for exemplary service to the party and the nation. I implored them to continue focusing on Jubilee’s people-centered transformational agenda now and in the future. Sote Pamoja,” Ruto tweeted as he came up with a new slogan.
