United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Chairperson Johnson Muthama has issued a statement following the stoning of Deputy President William Ruto’s motorcade in Kondele, Kisumu County.
Muthama stated that November 10, 2021, will forever stick in the minds of the hustler fraternity as a day marred by political violence.
“It is a day that reminded peace-loving Kenyans that the dark days of political violence which they believed had vanished could be back,” reads part of the statement.
The ex-Machakos Senator pointed fingers at the Government for failing to protect its citizens as required by the constitution. He told off institutions charged with maintaining order for failing to take action on persons inciting the public to engage in political unrest.
“Curiously, the Kenya Police and National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has remained aloof and has not acted in a way that inspires confidence from Kenyans. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should take action in disciplining ODM party by even disqualifying them from the oncoming General Elections.”
Supporting his statement, Muthama cited the case of business magnate Jimmy Wanjingi, a presidential aspirant, whose entourage was stoned in Migory County, but the authorities did not take any action.
Muthama further accused NCIC of hosting prolific conferences at top-notch hotels to address and warn politicians who are fond of inciting Kenyans, yet the commission is unable to arrest the politicians and charge them in accordance with the law.
Muthama commended his UDA party for advocating for peaceful campaigns so much that it has gone ahead and warned aspirants against participating in political violence as it will lead to disqualification.
He urged other parties to lay down policies similar to that of UDA.
