Security officers are having a hard time trying to control a crowd that has gathered outside the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is this afternoon expected to host over 20,000 delegates from the Mt Kenya region.

Invited persons and residents started arriving at the Lodge as early as 6 am.

However, being a protected area, not everyone can be allowed in.

The men deployed at the gate insisted that those entering must have a pass.
However, the majority of the local folks do not have an invitation and have been barred from accessing the premises.

Some of the residents who have spoken to journalists insisted that they have a right to attend the meeting since they are from the Mountain.

It is not clear how those concerned will handle the matter because turning away the people will not be politically prudent at such a time when stakes are high.

The Head of State wants to at the pedal of his succession.

However, one of the biggest hurdles he is facing is convincing his bastion that Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga is the best bet to replace him.

The gamble is just too huge for the President and he has to place the right odds to stamp his authority in a region thought to be hostile towards him.

Deputy President William Ruto is perceived to have made significant inroads in the Mountain for the last four years.

Sources say the President could give a detailed account of the genesis of his big fallout with his estranged deputy.
