ODM Politician Murdered While Sleeping Days Before Nominations

There is shock and sadness in Kisii county after one of the ODM aspirants in the area was murdered in cold blood.

Thomas Okari had expressed interest in the Bombaba Borabu ward seat on an ODM ticket.

He arrived at his rural home on Sunday evening to flex his muscles ahead of the party primaries scheduled for April 7. He has been a businessman in Nairobi.

He went to his room to rest before a commotion was heard by his nephew, who was in the house, later in the night.

A group of armed men had trespassed to the home without other family members knowing it and entered his bedroom.

They hit him with a panga in the head multiple times, leaving him for the dead.

“I was attacked this morning by unknown people who were after my life. Even in the hospital bed, the spirit of serving my people is unhurt,” his social media handlers wrote on the politician’s online platforms.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.

His family suspect the murder was planned and executed by Okari’s political nemesis and wants the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to swing into action and bring the killers to book.

Dagoretti North Simba Arati, who is seeking the Kisii gubernatorial seat on ODM, also expressed his shock and urged investigators to take immediate action.

“I have this morning learnt of the untimely death of Mr Thomas Ontweka, an aspirant of the MCA seat of Bombaba Ward in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency. I condemn the heinous, cowardly act and urge the police to ensure that the culprits are apprehended to face the full force of law,” he said.
