A columnist for The Times shares his experience of living through a ghostly version of New York City, the city with a hum that never ceases — until it did. He misses the “subway soliloquies,” the wandering tourists, overcrowded sidewalks and stenches. On today’s episode, Roger Cohen speaks to the city and asks for forgiveness.
