Cornered and isolated, Ruto now turns to religion, comic relief – Weekly Citizen

Deputy President William Ruto will never cease to amaze. Cornered, isolated and politically battered, the DP seems to have turned to religion and comedy for comfort, going by the many church functions he has been attending as he dishes out millions to willing men of the cloth across the width and breadth of the land on the one hand, and his Tuesday meeting with online content creators on the other.

The DP met African Divine Church clergy at his official residence in Karen, where he donned on the Church’s traditional cap.

Perhaps feeling the heat attributable to the contentious issue of multimillion donations by politicians to the church, comedians appear to have weaved their way into the DP’s struggles, with popular Kalenjin comedy group Propesa early last week paying him a visit at his Karen where rib-cracking short skits visibly did well to assuage Ruto’s political troubles.

Dressed in their trademark brown ‘chaget’ as they fondly call their familiar leather jackets, the Propesa cast, who met at the university, actually ‘donated’ one of their symbolic attires to the DP.

Propesa did not end their skit without reporting Elgeyo Markwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen had refused to clear a long standing debt owed to them. Ruto promised to take up the matter with Murkomen, saying he (DP) will pay if the Senate Majority Leader failed to do it.

Other comedians present were the Terence featuring Jaymo Ule Msee, Auntie Jemimah and Kamami. Here the DP played the role of a hustler whose water bill was long overdue.

In his tweet, Ruto wrote: “We are building an enabling environment for content creators to do their thing, especially in the digital space, which is key to creating jobs; enriching local media programming; promoting talent and enhancing the creative economy.”
