Otieno developed a fever last week and was rushed to hospital on Friday after complaining of breathing difficulties.

Otieno had been on the forefront in distributing foodstuff to the vulnerable in Maringo through his Kick off to Hope organisation.

Over 600 families in Nairobi’s Maringo Estate have benefited from his project with the former Harambee Stars coach having been involved in other charity events outside Nairobi before the COVID-19 lockdown.

During his playing days, Otieno featured for AFC Leopards and Tusker FC before joining South Africa’s Santos FC in 2011.

He was later promoted to the role of assistant coach of Harambee Stars under Bobby Williamson and Stanley Okumbi.

Kenyans, football players and clubs took to social media to wish him a speedy recovery.
