Entertainment News 08:57 Friday, January 18, 2019-Friends of Ali Salim Gichunge, the mastermind of Dusit Complex terror attack where over 21 people lost their lives, has described him as a God fearing man, who was loving, responsible, outgoing and had zero tolerance for alcohol.
Gichunge’s childhood friend, Moses Kinyua, said that he was a cool person who looked so innocent during their days at Hekima Primary School. “He was a cool person who oozed innocence during our time at Hekima Primary School. I am shocked. Not even in my wildest imaginations would I have thought that he would one day be linked to terror-related activities.”Kinyua said. Ironically, Gichunge in his younger years advised his peers against joining terrorist groups or subscribing to radical lessons. The terrorist’s father, Mr Salim, a driver with the Department of Defence, claims he divorced with his mother but still kept communicating with his son. However, in 2015, they cut communication. In  a statement to the police, Gichunge’s father said that he called his  ex-wife several times to inquire about his son  but she kept on telling him that she was not aware on his whereabouts. He assumed she wanted to lock him out of his son’s life and that’s when he decided to concentrate on raising his new family with a second wife. He suspects his son was radicalized when studying at a mosque in Mombasa where he was also a part-time Madrassa teacher. “He was tapped from Majengo in Nyeri, then taken to Mombasa where he could have been radicalised,” the father said.
