Govt urged to ensure women involvement in SDG's implementation

The National and county governments have been urged to ensure women involvement in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Women led community-based groups and Self Help Groups say women are key in shaping the society and should be involved in all critical decision making of the government through public participation.

Addressing media in Nakuru during a sensitization workshop for Grass root women from all the 11 sub-counties of Nakuru organized by GROOTS Kenya in partnership with SDGs Kenya Forum on the localization of the SDGs, the Executive Director of groots Kenya says progress can only be achieved through the implementation of SDG 5.

She points out the space of public participation as enshrined in the constitution where the citizens can give their views as one which has not been properly organized.

Wairimu wa Kanyiri form Molo sub-county a beneficiary of the CBO program says the civic education has enabled her to improve her farming yields.

Sentiments were echoed by one Dorcas Njoroge from Naivasha Sub County who challenged women at the grass root level to take up their space in matters of development.

She is also challenging the county government of Nakuru to ensure the gender bill is passed for women to have adequate representation in parliament.
