Amboseli, Kenya, October 9 – Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) has committed to continue supporting wildlife conservation in the country, in line with its sustainability agenda.
This was during the Magical Kenya Tembo Naming Festival where the company through its flagship brand Tusker named and adopted the two legendary elephants at the Amboseli National Park. The two elephants were named ‘Tusker’, in respect to the company’s flagship brand Tusker and ‘Serian’, a Maasai name that means the peaceful one.
The event which was graced by Tourism & Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku aimed to raise funds towards conservation efforts of the endangered African Elephants. The program will see several projects undertaken by the government through the Kenya Wildlife Service to promote peaceful co-existence between the wild animals and the local communities at the Amboseli National Park and other protected areas around the country.
Speaking during the event, EABL Head of Marketing Beer Anne-Joy Michira said:
“Conservation is at the core of our business as a company since it is one of our key sustainability pillars. This was therefore not a difficult decision to make to support such an initiative. We are confident that this is another great opportunity to express our continued support for conservation efforts in the country. As KBL we have decided to throw our weight behind this initiative that we hope will go a long way towards conservation of the elephants, and at the same time ensure peaceful co-existence with the communities living around them,”
She further lauded the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife for its democratization of conservation by allowing individuals as well as organisations to be able to make a tangible impact in the push for conservation of Kenyan wildlife.
“From a conservation standpoint, this is a momentous occasion. It is an investment in our country’s national wildlife treasure, which lays down the foundation for preserving it for many generations to come. This activity could also not have come at a better time than now when KBL and the Tusker brand are preparing to celebrate the centenary milestone starting December this year. During these celebrations, part of our plans is to be big on the sustainability agenda and this initiative therefore sets the right tone for us in that regard,” she added.
The partnership comes on the back of the launch of the East African Breweries Limited’s inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance Report to Society which provides an overview of the processes and mechanisms EABL has put in place to support communities and do business the right way, detailing the direct impact their sustainability work is having on its various stakeholders.
Among the key areas of focus in the report is the preservation of natural resources, including wildlife.
