The Kenya Under-23 national team, the Emerging Stars, defeated South Sudan 2-0 in their second match to book a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Cecafa U-23 Championships in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
Both goals were scored in the second half after a barren draw in the first 45 minutes.
KCB midfielder Reagan Otieno scored the first goal in the 51st minute and substitute Benson Omala doubled the score in the 62nd minute.
Coach Stanely Okumbi’s men have a 100 per cent record after they won 3-0 against Djibouti in their opening match on Sunday, 18th July.
They now top Group C, with six maximum points. Kenya will now face pool B leaders in the semi-finals.
Burundi tops Group B with points after a 1-0 win over Eritrea on Tuesday, 20th July. Ethiopia and Eritrea have one point each after a 3-3 draw in the opening match on Saturday, 17th July.
The tournament, which started on Saturday, 17th July, ends on 1st August 2021.
Cecafa Championship Groups:
Group A: Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo
Group B: Ethiopia (hosts), Burundi, Eritrea
Group C: Djibouti, South Sudan, Kenya
