Kenya Tea Development Agency in Mogogosiek Group of Companies directors who had conducted a disciplinary meeting have been summoned to record statement in Mogogosiek Police Station.
The meeting that was meant to summon tea buying centre clerks took place on the Tuesday April 7 2020 but the others of Kobel and Mogogosiek factory were cancelled. Konoin subcounty police commander Alex Shikondi confirmed that the Boito meeting that took place was null and void. But unconfirmed reports disclosed that management is said to have done away with Boito and waiting the two to clear when corona pandemic is over.
The board of directors are also accused of recommending that the meeting go on at this time when the country is fighting Covid-19. The management though they had observed social distance in Boito meeting was not enough as the over 50 witnesses were not observing the same. It forced lawyer Geoffrey Korir who wanted to represent the accused clerks to challenge the management to explain why they were not respecting government directives. The panel was chaired by region five regional operations manager Margaret Gachinga with other eight staff who are yet to record statements with police together with the board. Over 30 tea buying centre clerks are still to know their fate after the management served them with show- cause letters on March 18, this year. The tea buying clerks were accused for leaf falsification following the audit report that was conducted from July 2018 to August 2019. It is not clear what move the management will take since the clerks are still working without knowing their fate.
“If they have made up their minds to sack us, we are only demanding to be paid our benefits for the years we have served the company,” one of the clerk stated. Earlier when contacted over the issue, Kenya Tea Development Agency operations manager Alfred Njaki decline to comment on the subject saying the person to speak was board of directors chairman, Samson Menjo Mosonik.
