William Ruto’s political allies in the Coast region have lashed out at ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East legislator Babu Owino for abusing the DP.
“We are perturbed by the remarks made at the ODM’s thanksgiving rally at Kibra in which ODM officials and in particular Sifuna and Owino went overboard and used inciting language against the deputy president,” the DP supporters led by politician Nyonga wa Makemba said in a statement.
Reacting to statements made at Kibra DC grounds during a thanksgiving rally after Imran Okoth defeated Macdonald Mariga, they accused police and other relevant agencies of giving a deaf ear to the inciting remarks by the politicians, saying if the trend is allowed, ordinary Kenyans would be the losers.
They warned that if the likes of Owino and Sifuna are not tamed early enough, they would incite and bring chaos among peace-loving Kenyans during the 2022 general elections.
Makemba said the office of the DP must be respected by all irrespective of their party affiliations, saying if this is not encouraged, a bad precedent would be set.
While addressing the Kibra meeting, Sifuna hit out at the DP claiming he should be the first person to apologise to Kenyans over issues such as land grabbing and some deaths that shocked the country.
Sifuna was reacting to calls from the DP camp that ODM should apologise and own up to intimidation and chaos that rocked Kibra by-election. He hit back saying the DP’s camp is more culpable and should table apology first, Makemba a former personal assistant of the late Coast politician Karisa Maitha said chaos should never be glorified anywhere because it does not spare anyone when it occurs.
He criticised ODM for thriving on chaos and propaganda to further their agenda. Makemba said the DP is being fought by some government officials who fear that if he takes over the presidency, they would be displaced from their powerful positions.
Makemba said Coast region is solidly behind the DP and that in the event of a referendum; his stand would be the stand of Coast residents.
Makemba was among of a group of Coast leaders who recently held a meeting with the DP in his Karen office to chart the way forward in Coast development and politics.
