Defending Nyanza region boys’ basketball champions Ambira title defence plot has been dealt a blow after Homa Bay based Agoro Sare knocked them out of the regional competition on Tuesday evening.
In what was a repeat of last year’s final, the Homa Bay County champions claimed a sweet 65-53 revenge on the defending champions who defeated them last year.
Agoro was the first to draw the first blood and led the first quarter 17-7 before maintain their ground with a close 19-15 score in the second quarter to lead 36-22 by half time.
The inform Agoro boys then killed Patrick Mboya’s dream of completing a double by finishing the game in the third and fourth quarter.
Mboya blamed the loss on fatigue but praised the opponents for displaying high quality performance that saw them dominate from the start.
“We started the game slowly which allowed them to capitalize taking a commanding led in the first quarter. Agoro played well and they deserved to win. Our focus now has to shift to next year’s tourney,” he said.
In the other boy’s match, Kisumu County champions Maseno School showed their prowess and outplayed Siaya based Maranda 77-51 to set an epic final to be played on Wednesday.
In basketball girls, champions Barchando taught Itiero Girls a serious lesson in a 50-20 win to keep their dream of reclaiming their title alive.
However, they will have to face Siaya County champions Ng’iya Girls who cruised to the finals after crushing Tuk Jowi 46-29 in semifinal two.
In hockey, Nyamira Girls will face Pamela Mboya in the girls final as Kisumu Day has to go through host Homa Bay High to defend their title.
The handball finals will feature Kanyawanga against Mbita Boys as Siaya based Sega Girls tackle Msare Girls.
