Award-winning photographer Collins Kweyu was yesterday attacked by Mike Sonko and his ‘supporters’ at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission offices.
Sonko slapped the Standard Media’s Kweyu on his head as he made his way to the EACC gate, where he had been summoned yesterday.
Collins Kweyu, who was on official duty was assaulted by more people. A man wearing a light blue coat who is believed to be Sonko’s security detail could be seen landing a slap on the journalist.
While this was happening, police were busy teargassing Sonko’s supporters who had ‘accompanied’ the governor to support him.
Many have condemned the assault of the photographer with journalists taking to social media to call for respect for journalists.
The media council of Kenya has also condemned the acts of the governor assaulting Kweyu.
In a statement, MCK called upon the DCI and DPP to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attacks on Collis Kweyu and other journalists.
