Job Description
Reporting to Molecular Biologist I, the overall responsibility will be to use DNA to carry out forensic identification of wildlife exhibit submitted by law enforcement officers, prepare and present forensic analysis reports which may be used for prosecution of wildlife crime and also responsible for the quality control and management of the wet lab.
Responsibilities
- Identifying genetic forensic of wildlife exhibit submitted by law enforcement officers.
- Preparing of timely and accurate forensic analysis reports which may be used for prosecution in wildlife crime.
- Inputting work plans and budgets.
- Implementing the quality assurance program.
- Attending court cases to present forensic evidence and giving expert testimony.
- Implementing laboratory SOPS.
- Analyzing forensic exhibits submitted by law enforcement officers.
- Maintaining chemical inventory within the section as well as maintain MSDS binder.
- Disposing of any chemical/biological waste.
- Completing safety survey on a semi-annual basis.
- Insuring incident reports are completed and returned when an accident occurs.
- Providing safety orientation for new employees and manage the overall safety of the forensic laboratory section.
Qualifications
- BSc in Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Biotechnology or any other relevant Biomedical Science degree
- Quality laboratory Management Certification
- At least three (3) years’ experience in an established molecular biology laboratory
- Computer literate with proficiency in different statistical software will be an added advantage
