CHINESE NATIONALS ENGAGING IN ILLEGAL MINING TO REMAIN IN CUSTODY.

Five Chinese nationals facing charges of engaging in mining activities without a license will remain in custody after they were denied bail.

Nairobi magistrate Bernard Ochoi denied Yao Youming, Edion Lion, Wangizi Ling, Shun Ming and Wang Yang them bail saying they refused to produce their documents to the investigating officer, for verification.

The five also denied engaging in business without authority.

They are accused that on January 26, 2022 at Arundo area of Rongo sub county in Migori County, jointly with others not before court were found engaging in mining activities without a valid license or permit granted under the said Act.

They are also charged with engaging in mining business without being authorized to do so by a permit with Rio-Kavirondo ltd.

They faced a further charge of being in Kenya unlawfully.

The investigating officer told the court that the accused persons refused to identify themselves and suspect that the names they gave were not their real names.
