President Kenyatta will Back Raila Odinga in 2022

Siaya County Senator James Orengo is confident that President Uhuru Kenyatta will throw his weight behind Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential race.

According to Mr Orengo, President Kenyatta had indicated that the presidential hopeful he will endorse would be a surprise. He was speaking on Sunday in Gem, Siaya County where he expressed optimism that the surprise candidate will be the leader of Opposition Raila Odinga.

“At the end of the day, we’re saying that the leadership of Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Amolo Odinga is going to produce the next President of the Republic of Kenya,” said Mr Orengo.

The Senate Minority Leader added, “I’m glad when President Uhuru Kenyatta was saying he’s going to surprise people in Jubilee as to who is going to be the next President of the Republic of Kenya, he was saying that knowing that (William) Ruto is the Deputy President… and that surprise, according to us, practically and for all reasons, is Raila Amollo Odinga.”

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) point man also stated that there will be a referendum to address the grey areas in the current Constitution.

“We are going to have a referendum which I think will address the 20% of the Constitution that we had agreed in 2010 that there were areas that needed attention,” he said.

Mr Orengo further implored Kenyans to support the Building Bridges Initiative, noting that it is going to come out with constitutional solutions on the way forward for the country.
