The controversial MP said on Sunday that the only  way the government can tackle the spread of HIV and goonship is through male circumcision. The MP said that Luos have been made to believe that circumcision is only meant for other tribes butt they continue to get infected with HIV.

“I understand the obstacles we’ll be facing when undertaking the exercise. We’ll go against a cultural practice but I appeal to men from the Luo community to accept to be circumcised to reduce the spread of HIV infection,” he said.

He said that the process must also involve Luo elders to verify and check if the process is genuine or they remain cursed forever.

“The male circumcision conducted this time must include elders to prevent more curses. We must reduce the trend of HIV infections.  Men should go for the cut,” MP reiterated

He at the same time urged residents to continue using condoms during sexual intercourse.

“We know circumcision is voluntary where only willing men attend but we really appeal to Luos not to resist the exercise,” Okomo said.
