From the video, the duo was filmed walking to the counter before they pulled a gun from the backpack – pointing it at the cashier.
At the time, the 10 individuals who were at the shop were not aware of what was happening until the rider cocked the rifle.
Upon spotting the fire weapon, most of the occupants hid behind the counter while others ran to the other rooms. One customer in a white shirt was also seen dashing out the premises.
The rider appeared to demand money even as his accomplice in a helmet and a reflector jacket jumped over the counter in an attempt to get the money.
However, the duo appeared to have been frustrated by their victim’s hysteria and decided to run off before they could collect their loot.
Afterwards, the rider stepped out of the premises while still holding the gun even as he signalled his counterpart that it was time to leave.
The incident also comes after the National Police Service halted the Boda Boda crackdown that was ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the Forest Road incident to enable more consultation from various stakeholders in the transport industry.
“Enforcement of compliance of traffic law by public transport motorcycles aka boda boda crackdown has been stopped. This is to give room to the government to reorganize the sector through a multi-sectoral committee working on a framework of implementation,” stated the police statement dated March 12.
