Newly appointed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan took the oath of office Wednesday afternoon, 16th March.

Marjan was sworn in at the Supreme Court building in an event presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Speaking after the swearing-in, Marjan said he will ensure that the elections are conducted freely and fairly.

“We are in the middle of preparing for the elections, the commission is committing to conducting a free and fair election,” he said.

For her part, CJ Koome lauded the collaboration between IEBC and the Judicial Committee.

“I appreciate the ongoing collaboration between IEBC and the Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE) in the area of electoral law reforms and the training of Judges and Judicial Officers on Election Dispute Resolution (EDR), ” said Koome.

Marjan, who has been in an acting capacity since 2018, takes over from Ezra Chiloba, who is now the Director-General of the Communications Authority of Kenya.

The CEO vacancy was advertised in December 2021, attracting 511 applicants. Marjan emerged as the top candidate out of the five that had been shortlisted for the position.
