10 Patients Succumb as Covid-19 Cases Jump to 221,406

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 679 new Covid-19 cases from the 5,693 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 221,406.

The cumulative number of samples tested so far stands at 2,259,150. The country’s positivity rate is at 11.9 per cent.

In a statement issued in Nairobi, on Monday, 16th August Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that of the new cases, 649 are Kenyans while 30 are foreigners with 355 being males and 324 are females. The youngest case is a three-year-old baby and the oldest is 107.

Some 1,550 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,426 from home-based and isolation care while 124 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 203,922.

Sadly, 10 more patients have succumbed, bringing the death toll to 4,350.

Currently, there are 1,981 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 9,602 patients are in home-based isolation and care programme.
