24.5M Kenyans registered in various political parties, Nderitu says

More than 24M Kenyans have been registered in political parties ahead of August polls, Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu has revealed.

According to Nderitu, 82 political parties have returned their registers for certification in readiness for nominations.

“The current total members of political parties as at 26^th March 2022 stands at 24,005,714; comprising of male 15,363,657 (64%) and 8,642,057 (36%) females,” she said in a statement on Tuesday

Nderitu stated that within seven days the Registrar of Political Parties will have concluded the certification before submitting the list to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“The deadline for submission of certified party membership register to IEBC is 9^th April,” she said.

As at 28^th March 2022, 912 independent candidates had manually applied to the ORPP for clearance that they are not members of any political party out of which 650 were issued with clearance letters.
