31 More People Succumb as Covid-19 Cases Hit 227,077

The Ministry of Health has announced 1,414 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, increasing the national tally to 227,077.

The cases were from the 2,577 samples tested. This brings to 2,297,678 the cumulative number of samples tested. The country’s positivity rate stands at 13.8 per cent.

In a statement issued on Friday, 20th August, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 1,380 of the new cases are Kenyans and 34 are foreigners.

The latest infections include 733 females and 681males, while the youngest is a five-month-old infant and the oldest 99.

The national death toll rose to 4,435, after 31 more patients succumbed to the virus.

CS Kagwe said 1,670 patients had recovered from the disease, with 186 from various health facilities across the country and 1,484 from home-based care and isolation programme. The total number of recoveries now stands at 209,839.

There are 2,066 patients admitted to various health facilities across the country while 9,323 patients under the home-based isolation and care programme.

Some 167 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 75 of whom are on ventilatory support and 92 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 792 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 734 of them in general wards and 58 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
