3,286 More Test Positive as 4 Succumb to Covid-19

The Ministry of Health has announced 3,286 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 292,237.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 30th December, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the latest figure was derived from the 11,703 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings to 3,020,888 the cumulative number of Covid-19 tests. The country’s positivity rate now stands at 28.1 per cent.

Of the new cases, 2,851 are Kenyans while 435 are foreigners with 1,638 being male while 1,648 are females. The youngest is a eight-month-old while the oldest is 103.

A total of 260 patients have recovered from the disease, 152 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 108 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 251,223.

Sadly, four more patients have succumbed to the deadly virus, bringing the death toll to 5,375.

Currently, there are 935 patients admitted in various health facilities across the country while another 22,771 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Some 41 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 20 of whom are on ventilatory support while 21 are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 207 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 182 of them being admitted in the general wards and 25 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 29th December 2021, a total of 9,849,459 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,762,977 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,086,482.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
