5 Shot Dead in Highway Shoot Out

Kakamega County police officers on Tuesday afternoon, May 18 gunned down five robbers after a high-speed chase on the Kakamega-Kisumu highway. 

Reports indicate that the police officers were in pursuit of the robbers who were a notorious gang known for rampant criminal activities in the county. 

The incident was confirmed by Kakamega South Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Chesire who noted that the robbers engaged fire with the police who were forced to retaliate.

“The police challenged them to surrender but instead the (robbers) fired at them. All robbers were armed,” Chesire said.

Among the items recovered in the Toyota Belta used by the robbers were – two pistols, a police uniform, several rounds of ammunition, radio device and a bank cheque.
