Chinese device maker Xiaomi is known the world over for its competitively-priced devices that deliver very well.

On the software front, bar its brief dalliance with stock (or something close) Android on its three Android One smartphones – Mi A1, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite – all its devices feature its own custom take on Android popularly known as MIUI.

This has been so for as long as the brand has existed and it is not about to change. While the argument over the merits and demerits of custom Android vis-à-vis stock Android is one that we can’t exhaust, Xiaomi already has quite a lot of good things going for it with its current arrangement. For instance, every new MIUI build that makes it to older devices usually brings with it all the new features to such devices even though they are still stuck on older Android versions.

That won’t be an issue, though, for users of the following devices who are set to receive an upgrade to Android 9 Pie:

Device Timeline/Status
Redmi Note 5 Q1 2019
Redmi S2 Q1 2019
Redmi 6 Q2 2019
Redmi 6A Q2 2019
Mi Note 3 Q2 2019
Mi 6 Q2 2019
Mi Mix 2 Q2 2019
Redmi Note 6 Pro TBC
Mi 6X TBC
Mi 9 Explorer TBC

Xiaomi has already released the Android Pie update to the following devices:

  • Xiaomi Mi 8
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 SE
  • Poco F1
  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S
  • Xiaomi Mi Max 3

It is worth noting that the above list is not conclusive, though. More devices might still be considered to receive their slice of Android Pie.
