That President Uhuru Kenyatta has exited the social media scene may have escaped the attention of many online users.

But avid enthusiasts of this popular platform – not to mention the President’s followers – could not help but to wonder the unprecedented action by the President’s handlers to deactivate Uhuru’s social media pages, including the popular Facebook platform.

It has now emerged that worrying insults by a negative online community over perceived failures on the part of the Jubilee Administration prompted the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to advise against continued presence of the President’s social media pages, fear being, the continued insults by Kenyans to the Head of State via social media was painting the country in bad light among the international community and donors.

To them, the President was perceived to be a lame duck, with Kenya seen as a failed state.

Knowledgeable sources say a floodgate of abuses and negative feedback from “tired, suffering Kenyans” on posts made President Kenyatta jolted the NIS to recommend the sudden exit from social media.

Among the issues related to the posts that have been draw negative response include the presumed Chinese takeover of the country’s economy, lack of jobs, unmet election pledges and increasing cost of living.

Unsavory remarks made by thousands of Kenyans on updates by the President on Facebook were what triggered the suspension of Uhuru’s social media pages, with increased negative criticism by the online community offering too much to bear.

Hitherto, State House explained that illegal access to the President’s social media had led to the suspension of the Facebook and Twitter accounts.
