Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga was supposed to win the Kibra by-election by 61,000 votes. Elaborate plans between top Tanga Tanga leaders and rogue IEBC commissioners had been made and were at an advance stage when all came tumbling down.
DP William Ruto personally took to himself to lead the Jubilee campaigns in Kibra. The by-election was seen as a battle between Raila and Ruto, and the DP vowed to make sure Mariga won the seat. A win for Ruto would be a huge loss, politically for Raila Odinga given Kibra is his political bedrock, the vein and artery of ODM blood.
To make sure he won, by hook and crook, the DP had his way with crook IEBC officials and 50,000 votes were cast biometrically for Mariga as a head start a night before the elections. However, ODM already had intelligence reports on what was going on and had contingency plans in place to thwart this outright electoral fraud.
When you have 50,000 people vote biometrically, stuff boxes for delivery to target Kibra polling stations only for voting to go manual and constituency to be locked down, you get angry and tweet from Thursday to Thursday as what was to give you 61,000 votes yields only 11,000.
Since ballot boxes had been stuffed for delivery, to reflect with the already cast 50,000 votes, Tanga Tanga believed it had outwitted ODM and Mariga had won the Kibra seat.
On the eve of November 7th, things took an unexpected turn for Tanga Tanga when IEBC decided to use the manual voting, where all the votes would be cast and counted at the polling stations, manually. ODM locked down the constituency and kept Tanga Tanga at bay to stop any kind of monkey business from going on on the polling day. ODM’s Imran Okoth would later be announced the winner with over 24,000 votes against Mariga’s 11,000.
