Dr Doreen Lugaliki, the first Kenyan doctor to die of COVID-19, was set to walk down the aisle in November this year.
The medical officer who died after contracting the virus in the line of duty was engaged to Fred Mboss, 45.
Mboss, who is based in Nairobi, was set to visit Lugaliki’s parents in Bungoma to ask for their blessings.
The 45-year-old revealed wedding plans had begun to take shape before the doctor who worked at Nairobi South Hospital passed on.
“I loved her because of her beauty, character and brains. Our parents were happy when we told them and they promised to support us.
“The visit was to be followed by dowry payments before the wedding. The wedding plans were taking shape,” Mboss said.
Lugaliki, one of the frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19, fell sick on July 5.
She was diagnosed with diabetes and later tested positive for the disease on July 7.
Her condition worsened and she succumbed to the respiratory illness on Friday, July 10.
Mboss said he would miss travelling with her across the world.
“I will miss her beautiful smile, her bright brains, her company and who she was to me,” he added.
Lugaliki was buried on Monday, July 13, at her parents’ home in Bungoma.
She left behind two daughters, Kyla Ndinda and Kyle Kimilu, who were twins.
