Kimani Ngunjiri tells Uhuru to let Kenyans decide their next president

– MP Kimani Ngunji said the best thing Uhuru could do was to let Kenyans fairly elect their next president

– The fierce lawmaker said the democracy should take the centre stage in the upcoming elections

– He warned Uhuru against using dictatorship to influence the outcomes of the election and said something would go wrong if he went that route

Bahati lawmaker Kimani Ngunjiri has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta against forcing a president down Kenyans’ throats in 2022.

Ngunjiri, who does not waste a moment to criticise the head of state, said the president was headed for retirement and the best thing he could do was to let wananchi choose their next leader fairly and independently.

Speaking to journalists, the firebrand Tanga Tanga MP reminded the president of 2002 when late president Mzee Moi tried to force Uhuru on people and he ended up losing the election and said that when he ran independently in 2013, he won.

“Even now, the person that you will force on us, as Wanjiku we will not agree! If you use dictatorship, this country will have problems,” Ngunjiri said.

He said every aspiring candidate should be allowed to be in the ballot and Kenyans should elect one whom they deem fit to succeed Uhuru.

“You will be known to be the “ndume” if you will be installed by Wanjiku. Let Kenyans have their say, so that it democracy can prevail,” he said.

A fortnight ago, Ngunjiri said the president was planning to prolong his stay in the presidency.

The vocal lawmaker claimed the president intends to introduce communism in Kenya ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Ngunjiri also alleged that Uhuru was out to frustrate William Ruto’s presidential bid.

This was despite Uhuru stating he was not planning to extend his presidential term in a number of occasions.

” I can tell you if there is one thing that Kenyans are very clear about, is the two-term limit and they have been clear about since 1992 when we introduced multipartyism.

“There is no single president who has broken that and I do not intend to be the first… I have no clue whether there is going to be a premiership in the Constitution,” he said in a virtual meeting with Atlantic Council on June 18.
