Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has presented himself at Kilimani Police Station for violating the ongoing curfew order over the weekend.

Mr Sakaja arrived at the police station Monday morning accompanied by his lawyers John Khaminwa and Mutula Kilonzo Jr..

Speaking to journalists at the police station, Dr Khaminwa said that the senator was not expected to spend the night at the cells.

“He has already deposited some Sh10,000 cash bail. We do not know what charges will be preferred against him but the state seems determined to have him appear in court tomorrow (Tuesday),” the lawyer told journalists.

Speaking outside the police station, Mr Sakaja said he took responsibility for flouting the curfew guidelines and announced his resignation from the Senate Covid-19 ad hoc committee.

“I will abide by the law, no one is above the law, I’m not above the law. The law applies to me like any other Kenyan,” he said.

At the same time, the senator castigated the police whom he said had sent 50 officers on a stakeout at his residence for two days.

“I am not on the run,” said Senator Sakaja.

The senator did not record a statement with the police.
