Tottenham Hotspur have announced Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach.

The coach joins the North London club after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Nuno, 47, signed a two-year contract with the Spurs, who fired fellow Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho in April and temporarily hired Ryan Mason until the end of the season.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Nuno Epirito Santo as our new head coach with a contract until 2023,” read the club’s statement issued on Wednesday, 30th June

He will work alongside the newly appointed managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.

“When you have a squad with quality and talent, we want to make the fans proud and enjoy. It’s an enormous pleasure and honour (to be here), there’s joy and I’m happy and looking forward to starting work. We don’t have any days to lose and we must start working immediately as pre-season starts in a few days,” Nuno told the club’s official website after his appointment.

Nuno spent four seasons at Wolves, to which he was promoted from the Championship (English Second Division) in 2018 and has remained in the Premier League for the last three seasons. He also guided the Wanderers to the Europa League quarterfinals in 2020.

Before joining Wolves in 2017, Nuno had coached several clubs, including Rio Ave, Porto and Valencia.

The hiring of the Portuguese manager comes after unsuccessful attempts to sign Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Paulo Fonseca, Gennaro Gattuso and Julen Lopetegui.
