Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo on Monday, 25th April met with top performers in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

In his address, the County boss expressed his joy and pride of Vihiga County producing the top student in the country Jariel Ndeda Obura. He challenged the top performers to maintain high levels of discipline as they prepare for the next phase of their academic life.

The Governor reminded them to follow their passions in order to achieve fulfilling careers. He said Vihiga County is an innovation champion citing the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) laboratory that has been established at the County headquarters that helps in planning, monitoring and implementation of various County projects and programs.

The GIS lab since its establishment has seen many counties streaming to Vihiga to benchmark on the importance of the tool.

The top performers who were accompanied by their parents were full of praise to Dr Wilber Ottichilo’s administration for the strides it has made in the education sector.

The Governor’s Scholarship program that was started in 2019 has so far seen 347 students enrolled with the pioneer cohort set to sit for the national examination in November this year.

Chief of Staff in the Governor’s Office James Otari urged parents to provide maximum support to the students as they prepare to join University.

He said Dr Ottichilo’s record speaks for itself since he took over the office in August 2017 adding that the best reward for the Governor is the second term in office.

Chief officer for Health Services Dr Mary Anyiendah urged the students to set their goals and work hard to achieve them. She said that Vihiga County is a hub of creative and innovative brains adding that continuity of high standards of innovation is assured through the high performers.

“Our top student Jariel has expressed his desire to pursue a career in Orthopedic medicine, this is very encouraging, Vihiga will pride in one of her own being an orthopedic,” she said.

Vallery Anguzuzu who scored a mean grade of A from Lugulu Girls was full of praise for Governor Ottichilo. Anguzuzu’s mother is an ECDE teacher employed by the County Government.

“Am grateful to the Governor for employing my mother as an ECDE teacher, through this she’s been able to pay my fees at Lugulu Girls”, said the former Lugulu Girls School Captain.
