The Government has spent an estimated Ksh 70 million to organise the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, PS Interior Karanja Kibicho has revealed.

The PS says the amount is on a lower side since the infrastructural project was done by the Kenya Defence Forces.

The PS who spoke to Citizen TV just before the commencement of the celebrations said the amount was used to spruce up Uhuru Gardens while other monies was set aside to pay performers who entertained the guests.

He said having been in charge of rehabilitating Uhuru Gardens, the military would take center stage and they didn’t disappoint, showcasing their prowess in an elegant display in the final national event presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

An estimated 30000 guests were invited for the event an increment after the Government relaxed the COVID-19 measures.

They include Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio, Deputy President William Ruto, ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi among others.
