‘A dog ran away with my hand,’ Jacqueline Mwende on night hands were chopped off

Jackline Mwende has relieved the horror of the night her life changed completely. Both her hands were chopped off by her then-husband and she was left for dead on July 18, 2016.

Speaking to Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo, Mwende said, she remembers the day clearly as though it was yesterday.

“Sometimes when I narrate this story…it is hard. But I thank God I’m alive. Nilichuingulia kaburi.”

Adding,

“Our marriage was nice but it got rocky because people love blaming the woman for failure to get a child. it got so bad, he started drinking. I was chided by everyone nd branded barren. I like saying, God is the giver of children.”

She narrated further on the night of the gruesome incident that left her disabled for life.

“That day he came home at 7pm, he called out for me to open the door for him. When he walked in he started hacking at me immediately. I had a dog, it was very fierce, the minute my hand feel on the floor, the dog took it and ran off with it.”

Mwende continued,

“I screamed my heart out. I looked at him and asked him, ‘Ngila, unatakakuniua peke yako hivi, unimalize?’ He just looked at me and continued hacking at me.”

Adding,

“With him, he never showed any signs of aggression. It just happne one day and this really shocked me.”

Mwende advised anyone in an abusive marriage to leave immediately and take threates to their lives seriously.
