Five African artistes have been nominated for the 2022 BET Awards.
The awards, which have been running for the past 22 years, honour black entertainers in music, acting and sports.
Tems (Nigeria) bagged three nominations making her the first African to get the most nominations in a year.
Born Temilade Openiyi, Tems was nominated for Best New Artiste, Best International Act, and Best Collaboration for Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ remix featuring Justin Bieber.
Wizkid (Nigeria) received two nominations, while Fireboy DML (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC) and Major League DJz (South Africa) gained one nomination each.
Wizkid was nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Male R&B/Pop Artiste while Fireboy DMl, Major League DJz and Fally Ipupa were nominated for Best International Act.
Last year, Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz, Nigeria’s Wizkid, and Burna Boy were among the Africans nominated for the BET awards.
Internationally, Doja Cat leads the pack with six nominations. Ari Lennox and Drake garnered the second most nods with four nominations each.
