Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu, Auditor General

Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu has been endorsed by the National Assembly Finance and Planning Committee for the Auditor General position.

Nancy Gathungu will now wait for a formal presidential appointment and oathing to take over the AG position that has been vacant since Edward Ouko’s retirement in August 2019.

President Uhuru earlier nominated Nancy Gathungu after she emerged first among top three candidates. Gathungu will serve for a non-renewable 8-year term.

Mr Ouko was the first auditor-general under the 2010 Constitution.

Ms Gathungu, 51, was among the 17 nominees that the selection panel chaired by Mr Sammy Onyango recommended to President Kenyatta as not qualified for the job.

Ms Gathungu is currently the Director of Audit at the Auditor-General’s office, a position she has held since February 2014.

Before then she was the deputy director of audit.

In her current position, Ms Gathungu is answerable to five deputy auditor-generals, who will now become her juniors once she gets the job.
