A lorry ferrying rice and beans was involved in an accident in Roysambu along Thika Road yesterday and what followed was massive looting.

Residents rushed to the scene almost immediately, not to help the victims, but to steal.

In a video seen by Litkenya.com, Kenyans hurriedly took what they could and disappeared.

Shockingly, some motorists stopped and joined in the looting spree.

Some can be seen stealing as much as they could and unashamedly packing them in their cars.

The person who was capturing the incident pleaded with the looters, but they continued to cart away with bags full of rice and beans.

With a short space of time, the 40ft truck had been emptied.

The bags had been labeled GoK (Government of Kenya), indicating that the rice and beans could have been relief food.

Kenyans blamed the looting on the high cost of living while others condemned the looters.

Reactions

Enock Makori: “God is feeding his people. This should happen often. We cannot afford basic commodities because the prices are too high.”

Macaash Noor: “Thieves who complain when politicians steal from them. However hungry you are, remember to always protect your integrity.”

Rick Okinda: “Given an opportunity, every Kenyan is corrupt.”

Collins Lusweti: “I can see a beautiful, well-dressed woman holding car keys and confidently opening the boot for the husband to put in a bag of stolen rice. I don’t understand.”

Mutuku Jnr: “If it is relief food, many people need it. That’s not looting.”

William Kabogo: “I know many are asking, how did we get here? Your answer is as good as mine.”
