Leaders in the Azimio La Umoja Movement have accused the Deputy President William Ruto of persistently peddling lies to the masses with the aim of taking credit for government programs which they claim he has been sabotaging.
Speaking in Siaya County during a whirlwind tour of the county, the leaders led by the Deputy Party Leader of the ODM party Hassan Joho, the leaders accused Ruto of dishonesty and deceit saying he has no locus standi to claim credit of what he never was part of.
They said Ruto has developed a habit of being disrespectful to the President by persistently engaging him in public and calling him names.
“Ruto is a bad man. He has no qualities of a leader. He thinks Presidency is his birthright, he must know there are men and women out here who can do better than him” said Joho. Mr. Joho who is also the Governor of Mombasa County told the Deputy President to desist from insulting and daring the head of state. “If he cannot respect the President now, we are going to force him to do so” he told a charged crowd at Siaya Stadium.
He said whereas the ODM leader Raila Odinga was busy selling his policies and speaking to the people about what he will do for them when elected President on the 9th of August this year, the Deputy President was busy flexing his muscles by branding peoples names and spreading baseless propaganda.
“Raila is talking about how will make the economy grow, improve the working conditions to enable small scale traders prosper and strengthen devolution for better service delivery while Ruto is chest-thumping about projects he has never been part of”, charged Joho.
National Assembly Minority Leader and ODM Director of Elections Mr. Junet Mohammed wondered they kind of leader Ruto will make if what he thrives on is hate and lies. “Now that he is taking credit of the good things the Jubilee administration has done, I want to ask him if he also takes credit in the theft of money meant for Arror and Kimwarer dams, maize scandal and other scandals that he is associated with”.
Junet said Kenya needs a sober and mature leader who will accelerate it to greater heights of development for the betterment of the lives of every Kenyan. “Raila Odinga fits the bill. He has proven to be caring and understanding and we ought to support him to become the fifth President of Kenya” he added.
He told the people of Nyanza to remain steadfast in the ODM party if they wanted Raila to become President and lead the nation comfortably. “I want you people to be solid in the ODM party. Even the leaders in other parties like my friend David Ochien’g’ of Ugenya should fold and rejoin the ODM”, he said.
Senator of Siaya County Mr. James Orengo said he is confident that Raila Odinga will win the Presidency in August this year and urged the people of Nyanza to turn out in large numbers to vote for him. “We are in this race to win. And winning we shall,” he said.
He supported Mr. Junet’s calls for leaders in small parties in the region to consider rejoining the ODM party saying that will strengthen the Raila presidency. “Let us all be in one boat and sail together for united we stand and divided we fall” he said.
Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi said the people of Siaya are prepared to host the Presidency saying it will be an honour for Siaya County to produce the first ever president from Wetern Region.
His Ugunja counterpart Opiyo Wandayi urged the people of the region to register as voters in large numbers if they wanted to vote for Raila Odinga overwhelmingly. “We have the capacity to take Baba to State House, but we must take him there will a lot of votes” he said.
Murang’a County Woman Representative Ms. Sabina Chege said the people of the Mountain had began embracing Raila Odinga’s bid and that she was optimistic that he will receive a lot of votes from the region. “I gave him a pair of boots to help him climb the mountain and together we shall reach the summit” she said.
She called on the people of Nyanza region to strongly support Mr. Odinga’s bid to become Kenya’s fifth President saying the rest of the country has a lot of confidence with his style of leadership.
Kieni MP Mr. Kanini Kega said Mr. Odinga is acceptable in Mt. Kenya and that the people of Nyanza should show him love by voting him in as the president overwhelmingly. “We are climbing the mountain with him. He is a good leader. He is tested and we know he will positively pick from where President Uhuru will have left when he retires” he said.
Others who spoke included Governor Cornel Rasanga of Siaya, MPs Dr. Otiende Amolo, Dr. Gideon Ochanda, Prof. Jacqueline Oduol, Dr. Christine Ombaka, Elisha Odhiambo among others.
The leaders addressed rallies in Ugunja, Siaya town and Bondo town.
The team will on Thursday be in Vihiga County for a series of rallies before heading to Busia County on Friday.
