Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Presidential hopeful, Raila Odinga, Wednesday traversed Vihiga County, drumming up support for his presidential bid in the August 9 polls.
Raila started the day by holding a town hall meeting with the county leaders where he pledged to transform the country’s economy if elected Kenya’s 5th president.
It was here that DAP-Kenya affiliated leaders asked the ODM chief to put his Azimio house in order amid claims that some political parties under the Azimio one Kenya umbrella were being taken for granted.
Representatives of various groups in the meeting, including teachers’ unions and the clergy used the opportunity to lobby for their interests, even as they vowed to vote for Odinga in the August polls.
In response Odinga promised an inclusive government where the interests of every Kenyan will be catered for. The former prime minister said he will implore President Uhuru Kenyatta to issue Kaimosi Friends College a University Charter.
For Vihiga residents, he promised to uplift the lives of residents and engineer development in the region.
He said his administration will prioritize economic empowerment of the youth and women by availing low interest loans for small and medium business enterprises.
Raila said he is the best candidate to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and is well placed to complete the ongoing infrastructural projects that President Kenyatta has initiated.
He at the same time defended his proposed social protection programme that would see vulnerable Kenyans receive Kshs 6,000 monthly, saying funds for the program would be sourced through sealing corruption loopholes in government.
