Azimio Postpones Announcement of Raila’s Running Mate

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance Coalition has postponed the unveiling of Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga’s running mate.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 15th May Raila’s campaign spokesperson Prof Makau Mutua stated that Azimio would announce the former Prime Minister’s deputy on Monday, 16th May.

“Our campaign is aware that Kenyans are anxious to know the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition Presidential ticket. We shall make the announcement tomorrow (16th May).”

Raila is expected to unveil his running mate today during the Azimio La Umoja rally in Kamukunji grounds.

With the deadline slated for tomorrow Raila will have to pick one of the three names submitted to him for consideration by the Azimio running mate selection panel.

The panel led by Dr Noah Wekesa last week on Thursday, 12th May submitted three sealed names to the coalition’s flag bearer Raila Odinga.

The panel noted that the three names had been submitted in order of priority.

According to reports the panel had selected Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth and Kalonzo Musyoka as the best choice to deputise Raila Odinga.

Candidates who appeared for vetting include Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua (Narc-Kenya), Sabina Chege (Jubilee Party), Peter Kenneth (Jubilee Party) Ali Hassan Joho (ODM) and Stephen Tarus (National Liberal Party).

Others are Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, deputy ODM leader Wycliffe Oparanya and Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
