Family and friends of late actor Charles Bukeko, popularly known as Papa Shirandula, gathered at the Montezuma funeral home to bid their star farewell.
The body of the late was set to be ferried to his rural home in Busia where the burial ceremony is set to take place on Monday, July 20.
A video shared by Citizen TV showed many gathering at the funeral home as they watched in disbelief the loading of his body on to a hearse that was to transport the late to his final resting place.
A somber mood engulfed the place and one could spot a few people in tears as they found it difficult to come to terms with Shirandula’s sudden demise.
Colleagues of the thespian from Royal Media Service were also in attendance to pay their last respects.
His brother-in-law Rowland Wanyama confirmed Shirandula passed away on the morning of Saturday, July 18, at Karen Hospital where he had been rushed to after feeling unwell.
“He tested positive of coronavirus and he agreed with the doctors that he returns home and have home-based care until today when he developed breathing complications,” he said.
Following the sudden and unexpected death of Shirandula, moral police Ezekiel Mutua suggested the star should be granted a state funeral.
In a reminiscent and sad Twitter post, the Kenya Films and Classification Board boss said he epitomised the best of the entertainment industry.
Therefore, the entertainer who died aged 58, deserved to be sent off like a true king, a true hero as the whole country watch.
