BUDGET: Uhuru’s big four agenda allocated Sh146.1bn

NAIROBI, Kenya April 7-The government has allocated Sh146.1 billion towards the implementation of President Uhuru’s Big Four Agenda in the 2022/23 financial year.

The allocation is up by almost Sh4billion from the Sh142.1 billion allocated in the current 2021/22 year.

The agenda focuses on four key pillars, namely, manufacturing, housing universal health and food security.

Treasury CS Ukur Yatani while presenting the Sh3.3trillion budget in Parliament noted that the implementation of the projects under the Big Four agenda was slowed down by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The project which was expected to cement President Uhuru’s legacy as he leaves office in August might drag for more years than was expected or may not achieve the intended milestones.

In the allocations, Universal Health Coverage received the lion’s share of Sh62.3billion while manufacturing received Sh10.1 billion.

Another Sh27.4billion was allocated to the housing sector.

The government has set the 2022/23 budget at Sh3.3 trillion which will be distributed among the recurrent expenditure at Sh2.3 trillion and development expenditure of Sh715.5 billion.

Yatani projected the total revenue collection at Sh2.4 trillion equivalent to 17. 5 percent of GDP.
