The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld the Disciplinary Tribunals’ decision to ban Kenyan marathon runner Daniel Wanjiru for four years following an Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) violation.

The 2017 London Marathon winner was provisionally suspended in April for the use of a prohibited substance.

Wanjiru was banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit in October 2020 for the use of a prohibited substance. However, he had denied using a banned substance.

According to CAS, the Athlete’s ABP were highly abnormal and indicated a high probability of doping.

“The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed Kenyan marathon runner Daniel Wanjiru’s appeal and upheld the Disciplinary Tribunals decision to ban him for four years for an Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) violation,” CAS said in a statement.

Wanjiru won the Amsterdam Marathon in 2016 and also finished 8th and 11th at the London Marathon in 2018 and 2019.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is an international body established in 1984 to settle disputes related to sport through arbitration.

It is an independent body governed by the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS). The main task of ICAS is to safeguard the independence of CAS and the rights of the parties.
