Celebrity barber Dola Barberia provides 3,000 free masks in the slums to help fight Covid-19

Celebrity barber Dola Barberia is changing the society one mask at a time, thanks to his desire to restore dignity among the poor.

Dola, who has been practicing the trade for the last 7 years, has so far provided more than 3,000 masks for free.

According to the soft spoken young man

‘He started the initiative after he saw how people in the slums were suffering due to lack of mask…

Initially he only started with a few masks he had for himself then later got support from his friends ,clients and celebrities.’

The 3,000 masks have so far been distributed in areas such as Mathare, Huruma, Kariobangi and some parts of Eastleigh.

Apart from Huddah, there is Boniface Mwangi and Guardian Angel who has also received support from local broadcasting stations.

Asked on how he got such celebrities to support his idea, Dola said

‘I talked to them and pitched the idea and they decided to support me.’

Having been in the industry for 7 years, he has had the chance to interact with different celebrities among them

king Kaka, Jblessing, Masterpiece, Boniface Mwangi, Kelechi, Guardian Angel among others.

Dola added that Boniface Mwangi has been such an inspiration because of his philanthropic efforts helping people in the slum.

On his future plans after corona, he wants to train people living in the slums so he can empower them with a skill that can help them put food on the table.
