The Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) has shut down Mt Kenya TV fo four weeks for going against programming policies.

In a statement addressed to the station, CAK Acting Director General Mercy Wanjau also noted that the station will be required to pay a fine of KSh 500k for airing explicit content.

The authority found the content aired at ‘Mucii wa Ciiina’ inappropriate after discovering that it contained sexually explicit content and drug abuse scenes.

The content also has scenes of robbery and violence breaching programming code and ICT sector law.

The content in question dubbed Free Jimmy was aired on the station on April 18 at 2 pm.

The TV station will be off air for the set period unless they head to court and the court rules otherwise.

The ruling by CAK becomes the first of its kind to have been made in Kenya.

This comes exactly a month after the authority fined Radio Africa’s Homeboyz Radio KSh1 million for derogatory comments about women its presenters made.

The CA also imposed a six-month suspension of the station’s morning breakfast show until the station complies with regulatory requirements.
