COVID-19: Bomet response team tracing seven passengers from Nairobi – KBC

Bomet County Covid-19 Emergency Response team is tracing seven people after a passenger they travelled with from Nairobi tested positive for COVID-19.

The man who reportedly travelled from Nairobi to Bomet unwell called the Bomet County Emergency Response team on arrival and was picked for testing immediately where he tested positive. 

The person is said to have travelled from Nairobi to Bomet knowing about his status and boarded a South Rift Matatu Sacco.

Confirming the incident, Bomet County Governor Hillary Barchok said contact tracing was ongoing as the eight people who were aboard the Matatu are being sought for testing.

The Governor urged Matatu sector to adhere to guidelines by the ministry of health to avert the spread of COVID-19 now that the lockdown has been lifted and many people are leaving Nairobi that has been identified as a hotspot.

The County has so far recorded 13 cases of COVID-19.

Already there are fears that lifting of Nairobi lockdown will trigger mass exodus as many people have lost their jobs and cannot afford basic amenities opting to return to their rural homes further spreading the virus.
